New Tax Regime Slabs (FY 2025-26)
- Up to ₹4,00,000 — Nil
- ₹4,00,001 – ₹8,00,000 — 5%
- ₹8,00,001 – ₹12,00,000 — 10%
- ₹12,00,001 – ₹16,00,000 — 15%
- ₹16,00,001 – ₹20,00,000 — 20%
- ₹20,00,001 – ₹24,00,000 — 25%
- Above ₹24,00,000 — 30%
Under Section 87A, a full rebate makes tax payable zero for taxable income up to ₹12,00,000 (effectively up to ₹12,75,000 gross salary after the ₹75,000 standard deduction). A 4% health and education cess applies on top of the calculated tax.
Old Tax Regime Slabs
The Old Regime allows deductions like 80C, 80D, and HRA, but has different exemption limits based on age:
- Below 60: Nil up to ₹2,50,000; 5% up to ₹5,00,000; 20% up to ₹10,00,000; 30% above ₹10,00,000.
- 60-80 (Senior Citizen): Nil up to ₹3,00,000, then the same slabs.
- Above 80 (Super Senior): Nil up to ₹5,00,000, then the same slabs.
A rebate under Section 87A makes tax payable zero for taxable income up to ₹5,00,000 in the Old Regime.
