What Is GST?
GST (Goods and Services Tax) is a single indirect tax applied to the supply of goods and services in India, replacing multiple earlier taxes. It's charged as a percentage of the value of goods or services, at standard slabs of 5%, 12%, 18%, or 28% depending on the item.
How to Use This GST Calculator
- Add GST — enter the base amount (before tax) to find out the GST and the total price you'll pay.
- Remove GST — enter the total amount (which already includes GST) to find out the original base price and the GST portion within it.
- Choose the applicable GST rate using the quick buttons or type a custom rate.
How the Calculation Works
- Add GST: GST Amount = Base Amount × Rate ÷ 100; Total = Base Amount + GST Amount
- Remove GST: Base Amount = Total Amount ÷ (1 + Rate ÷ 100); GST Amount = Total Amount − Base Amount
For sales within the same state, GST is split equally into CGST and SGST. This calculator shows that 50/50 split alongside the total GST for convenience.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I add GST to a price?
Enter the base amount (before tax), choose the applicable GST rate, and select "Add GST". The calculator multiplies the amount by the GST rate to get the tax, then adds it to give the total price.
How do I remove GST from a price?
Enter the total amount (already including GST), select "Remove GST", and the calculator divides it by (1 + GST rate) to work out the original base amount and the GST portion.
What is the difference between CGST and SGST?
For sales within the same state, GST is split equally into CGST (Central GST) and SGST (State GST), each being half the total GST rate. For sales between states, IGST applies instead as a single combined rate.
Is this GST calculator free to use?
